Servers of all ability levels will be able to master their craft. We will split athletes based on their goal. If their goal is to make a serve over the net, then we will keep those players together. If players are working on jump serving or spot serving, they will be in a different instruction area. We will use delayed camera technology so the athletes can see their technique after they perform it, and coaches will be able to quickly guide the athlete to a faster technique retention rate.
Setters and attackers will be separated on ability level and then progress from their current state to a more technically skilled level. The goal is to maintain proper technique as the level of play between setters and hitters becomes faster and more competitive.
These clinics are designed for our 14 and under athletes who have previous club and/or school experience and are ready to increase their game skills to the next level. Coach Kevin Schmalzried’s high-level coaching and playing experience makes him a perfect candidate to take athletes who have achieved a level of understanding of the game of volleyball and develop that understanding into the highest possible skill sets, self-confidence, and intensity that are necessary for success on national teams. Coach Kevin brings a level of professionalism and competitive intensity that will be evident to each and every athlete that walks in the gym.
Passers of all abilities will be separated on ability level and progress from their current state to a more technically skilled level. The goal is to maintain proper technique as the competition level rises, thus raising our skill level as well. Using the attacking machines and slant boards, the DS/Libero position athletes will be trained to the point of mastery.

These clinics are for 14 & Under athletes. Athletes will be grouped together based on age and ability level, and coaches will guide the athletes through winning strategies for 6v6 play. There will be various different methods of instruction. This IS NOT AN OPEN GYM. Coaches will stop and start play at times to recreate competitive scenarios with the purpose of having athletes develop and retain winning strategies.
This is A2’s version of open gym. The biggest problem with open gyms is they can get slow and when unsupervised and difficult to work out. With Advanced Guided Play, there will be a coach on every court organizing game play and giving coaching advice as well as officiating play to keep the tempo and intensity of the court going in the right direction. It’s not our intention to run “practice and drills.” We are increasing the atmosphere that is usually associated with open gym experiences. We will add speed and organization to ensure that, at the end of the session, each athlete was pushed to their best ability and increased their "Volleyball IQ” through adult guidance. Athletes will be given the ability to immediately apply this instruction into competitive game play. This experience will result in winning game habits and an increased confidence due to always having a competitive game plan in any match scenario. This clinic will be run by both A2's Club Director, Shaun Servick, and Kevin Schmalzried of the Columbus Crimson professional men's volleyball team.
This is the clinic for any athlete trying out for their 7th, 8th or 9th grade teams! This “school practice/tryout”-inspired camp is geared directly for those players who are pushing hard to either make their school team or earn more playing time on it. We will cover tips for how to behave at tryouts, what kinds of drills may be involved, what they can expect to feel like when they get in the gym, and how to cope. The prime objective of this is to make sure each athlete can put their best foot forward when their best is expected. There will be a mix of skills drills, disciplined expectations, and 6v6 competitive situations.

A2 offers a variety of tryout tune-up sessions to help you prepare for upcoming club tryouts. These events will be a great opportunity for you to get familiar with the process and know what to expect on tryout day. Our coaches are looking forward to seeing you in the gym!
